This is my first exposure to Arctic cotton grass. It looks like small puffs of absorbent cotton covering a field or meadow. Fantastic!
Next stop was Assaquataq and an early morning visit to an abandoned fishing village. I just loved the different colors in this landscape enhanced by the early A.M. light. It looks more like India than the Arctic, doesn't it?
I climbed a hill so I could look down on this abandoned building in Assaquataq. Going down was much harder and slower - such uneven ground and lots of rocks! But ... I captured a great memory.
I got up at 4:30AM to be up on deck as we approached Ilulissat. I knew that we would begin seeing icebergs. It was quite misty and I was using my tiny Canon S100 but I was rewarded with this moody image.
Sailing into Ilulissat amidst icebergs is both exciting and enthralling. I remember that my feet were so cold but I refused to go inside because I didn't want to miss a thing!
I pointed my camera at what looked like a small iceberg in the distance. This is what I got - a collage of colors and gorgeous bits of nature. So cool:)
