Women’s Travel Tip: Arequipa, Peru

JourneyWoman Claudette shares her tips for soaking up all Peru has to offer – including what’s worth the investment and what isn’t.

“LOVED Arequipa! Spent a wonderful few days in Colca Canyon (Colca Lodge with Hot Springs very nice) and saw the CONDORS soaring—wonderful! Puno is a nice town and Lake Titicaca is worth it, but the best reason for going there is you can then take the Andes Explorer train across the Altiplano into Cusco—it was definitely one of the highs of the trip. We stayed in Aguas Calientes at a very nice hotel with casitas. A few days in the Sacred Valley also worth it — definitely see Ollantaytambo. We also spent a few days at an ecolodge for an “Amazon experience” that was not worth it. You can minimize Lima, but there’s a wonderful archeological site about a three-hour drive north that is well worth your time. Wonderful trip. Needs 3-4 weeks to do it well.”
