Women’s Travel Tip: Machu Picchu, Peru

JourneyWoman Marti shares her tips for travelling around Machu Picchu – a place she’s yearned to explore since she was a little girl and her dad was reading Hiram Bingham’s book Lost City of the Incas.

Avoid Lima if you can. Sorry, those who love it, but I just didn’t. A day or two is plenty. Stay near Kennedy Park if you must stay over. You can walk around it and to the waterfront from there. Pisco sours, of course! Great accommodations in Aquas Calientes nearest the ruins are few and far between. Plan to spend a few days, preferably near the Plaza de Armas, in Cusco and make sure you eat the pizza. (Yes, pizza.) Of course, Peru is known for ceviche so don’t miss that, either. PS: Loved the seafood, not the guinea pig!”
