News Headlines
COVID-19 News and Resources
Even if your country is starting to re-open, we need to remember this is still a global health crisis, with millions of people affected. Globally, as of 2:00 pm CEST, 28 May 2021, there have been 168,509,636 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 3,505,534 deaths, reported to WHO. As of 26 May 2021, a total of 1,545,967,545 vaccine doses have been administered. Despite the vaccines, health experts warn that COVID protection measures—masks, distancing, and avoiding nonessential travel—will still be needed for most of 2021, if not longer, until herd immunity around the world is achieved through mass immunization.
Tracking
COVID-19 Travel Regulations Map
The International Air Transporation Alliance (IATA) and the UNWTO (UN World Tourism Organization) have introduced a free interactive map that provides real-time updates for COVID-19 travel restrictions by country.
The tool provides information on:
- COVID-19 Indicators including infection rates, positivity rates, and vaccination roll out by destination/country.
- Air Travel Regulations, including test and quarantine requirements, provided by IATA’s Timatic solution.
- Destination Measures, including general health and safety requirements such as use of masks, transit through a country, curfew, or regulations related to restaurants and attractions, provided by national tourism organizations.

Testing Before Travel
COVID Testing for Travel
In most cases, you must get tested within 72 hours of the scheduled departure time of your flight. Testing is the only way to confirm if you have COVID-19, making it an important way to protect yourself and others.
Before booking and before you travel, ensure you check the latest government travel requirements, which may include mandatory health declarations, use of face masks, permits, pre-approval and quarantine (possibly at your own expense), or you could be denied entry.
The CDC has posted Frequently Asked Questions here, which include the types of acceptable tests, information that must be included on the test result, and documentation required.

Where to Get Tested (Sample Listing only)
Testing requirements are changing constantly, so please check with your airline or public health organizations prior to travel.
Canada: Two well-known names in the specimen collection and diagnostic testing industry are LifeLabs /Shoppers Drug Mart and Dynacare (Montreal only).
USA: There are a variety of places offering coronavirus testing, including urgent care centers, travel clinics, fire stations, pop-up sites, most hospitals, pharmacies and some airports. If you’re going abroad, check the U.S. Embassy website of the country you’re visiting for applicable testing information.
If you can’t find an in-person testing site, you can order one to be delivered to your house. One such option is Pixel, an at-home nasal swab collection kit from LabCorp for individuals 18 years or older who meet criteria to warrant a test. The FDA-authorized RT-PCR kit arrives in about two days, and results are returned within a few days. Opt for a viral, or diagnostic, option like the RT-PCR test to find out whether you actively have the coronavirus before traveling. This can be administered by nasal or throat swabs, as well as by taking saliva samples.
Europe: Mandatory Covid testing for travel to Europe is one of the measures supported by the EU. In line with these EU guidelines, an increasing number of most European countries have established COVID-19 testing as an entry requirement. Travellers should check the specific requirements of the EU Member State they wish to visit to see whether they need a test and which kinds are accepted.
Australia: Australia’s borders are still closed to international visitors with the exception of New Zealand. To learn more visit the Australia.com website.
New Zealand: Quarantine free travel between Australia and New Zealand commenced on April 18, 2021. All travellers who have been in either Australia or New Zealand for 14 days can travel by air between Australia and New Zealand quarantine free, without the need to apply for a travel exemption. Those who seek to travel from New Zealand to another international destination and then return to Australia will be required to present a negative COVID-19 test.
Asia: To Come.

Will Proof of Vaccination be Required for Travel?
Countries around the world are evaluating how to manage proof of vaccination to ease travel. To date, there is no global standard, so gird yourself for abundant confusion and concern about privacy issues.
England has launched a NHS COVID-19 App which includes contact tracing, information on local area restrictions and venue check-in. There is a completely separate NHS app to request repeat prescriptions, message their doctor and organise online consultations.
European officials have rolled out an EU-wide Digital Green Pass which will use QR code technology in June. As of June 13, 12 countries have adopted it with 16 on deck. The certificates are intended to facilitate free movement during the pandemic by providing proof that a person has either been vaccinated, received a negative test result or recovered from the virus. This will be in the form of a QR code, either carried on a piece of paper or in a digital application, such as France’s TousAntiCovid app on someone’s phone. These contain the travelers name, date of birth, passport number, whether you have been vaccinated or not, the type of vaccine you had, and if you have already had Covid-19.
Denmark, Iceland and Israel are among the countries that have developed their own system. Sweden plans to roll out its plans in June.
Word is that Japan will develop its system this summer, based on the EU Digital Passport.
At the moment, it looks like Canada will require proof but all the provinces seem to be going their own way. We are hoping the federal government will step up and make a decision quickly.
Travel Apps
ArriveCAN: ArriveCAN is free and secure and is the official Government of Canada platform to provide your information when entering Canada. Use ArriveCAN to provide mandatory travel information on and after your entry into Canada.
CLEAR Health Pass: CLEAR is. a digital health passport that securely validates your ID, lab and vaccination credentials.
CommonPass: CommonPass is a newer digital health app that allows you to access your lab results and soon, your vaccination records. It is only available to limited partners.
VeriFLY: Is a free app being used by American Airlines and other carriers to upload required travel documents such as negative coronavirus (COVID-19) test results.
IATA Travel Pass: The IATA Travel Pass app is now available for download on the Apple Store but travelers will not be able to use it unless their airline is part of a trial. If your airline is participating in one of these trials, they can provide you with instructions on how to use IATA Travel Pass.

This page is updated regularly. More than 2 million people in the U.S. have tested positive for the coronavirus and more than 110,000 have died. The growth in new cases and deaths overall have at least temporarily slowed, but that pattern hasn’t been consistent across the country. New hot spots are emerging as others subside.
