February 2026: Letter From The Editor – The Wellness Issue

by | Feb 6, 2026

Dear readers:

What do you love most about getting older? For me, it’s about freedom. I know what makes me happy, and I have the time and flexibility to do anything or be anything that I want. I no longer need to play by society’s rules — I have earned the right to make my own.

And despite all the challenges I’ve encountered — divorce, reinvention, losing both of my parents and more — I am grateful, because these things have made me the woman I am today. Yes, I have aches and pains, I’m not the same size I was in my 30s, and I have more wrinkles and sags. But what matters most is my mindset, and that’s where travel comes in.

When I was invited to take over JourneyWoman in 2019, I had just sold everything I owned to travel — my house, my clothes, my car. I didn’t have a plan. I had no idea what would follow this decision. I just knew that I had to be free. Today, I’m living a life I never could have envisioned. Travel isn’t just a vacation for me, it’s a catalyst for a healthy, active life – one where I can cultivate curiosity, gratitude and empathy, and feel connected to — and in awe of — our world. When you have an open mind, confidence and self-awareness, adventures just happen!

Having just returned from two months in Asia, I’m feeling re-energized and ready for a new year of adventures. If you’d like to hear about my travels to Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam, I’m hosting an informal Zoom call on Wednesday, February 25, at 8 pm ET to share some travel tips about Kuala Lumpur, George Town (Penang), Malacca and Langkawi. If you’ve been to Malaysia, come share your experiences too! (Sign up here).

In March, I’ll be on the Rick Steves Monday Night Travel Show on Monday, March 2, to talk about women’s solo travel over 50, and will be sharing my experiences in Spain, Switzerland and Romania. (Sign up here). Our JourneyWoman group of travellers heads to Norway for our annual Northern Lights cruise with Hurtigruten on March 2, hosted by Kathy Buckworth (who’s also leading our new “Ageless Adventuress” podcast). And later that week, we’re celebrating women in travel at the JourneyWoman Awards on Thursday, March 5 (sign up here!). Thank you to everyone who sent in a nomination. We’ll be sending out a list of finalists soon.

Now, more than ever before, it’s important that women travel — if only to remind ourselves that world is a wonderful place. In this issue of JourneyWoman magazine, we focus on travel as a catalyst for wellness. Science tells us that travel is more than a vacation – it helps us live longer, healthier, and happier lives. We only get one life. Let’s make the most of it by making our dreams happen.

With gratitude,

CEO and Editor, JourneyWoman
