Morocco to Timbuktu: An Arabian Adventure– Alice Morrison (2017)
Recommended by Wendy and Cindy
Alice Morrison follows the ancient, lost salt roads from the top of Morocco across the burning sands of the Sahara to find the fabled city itself. This book is a good old-fashioned adventure with death-defying donkeys, a severe case of gold fever and plenty of goat gizzards for dinner. It explores one of the most dangerous routes in history which brought gold, salt and slaves across the Sahara and up to Europe.
PLEASE NOTE: You can purchase this book in paperback and as an ebook as part of our NEW three-book Subscription Box with the Wordy Traveler which will include our May, June and July books at a lower price than available in stores. Please visit this page for details.
We want to keep our book club sessions open to everyone by using a Pay-What-You-Can model. it’s up to you: you can choose ‘0” or you can consider paying what you can to help us cover costs. Your support also enables us to make a donation to a non-profit organization. This month, author Alice Morrison asked us to donate proceeds to Education for All, which provides boarding houses for girls so they can continue secondary school in Morocco. Very few girls from the rural communities of the High Atlas Mountains get the opportunity of continuing their education beyond primary school. Secondary schools, mostly several kilometres away in larger towns, are not accessible to them. Learn more here https://www.efamorocco.org/donate/
Discussion questions are provided on our website before the session. Visit our Book Club Page for the latest news and updates: https://journeywoman.com/book-club/. Thank you and we welcome any feedback to make these helpful and fun for you!
We can’t wait to see you!
