A learning opportunity for travellers and the travel industry
Decolonizing travel means critically examining and promoting ways to redress the power dynamics in travel and tourism to move away from colonial and exploitative practices. It’s about empowering local communities, respecting Indigenous cultures, and fostering equitable and mutually beneficial travel experiences.

This is an important discussion for anyone who is creating content, designing tours or is curious about how we can make travel more inclusive and intentional. About RISE Travel Institute Flagship Program
As advocates for sustainable, inclusive and meaningful travel, last year, we formed a strategic partnership with Rise Travel Institute to offer our JourneyWoman Women’s Travel Directory members the RISE Travel Institute Flagship Program at a discount. This 10-week program curriculum is intended to help create more responsible, impactful, sustainable and ethical travel experiences. The curriculum includes sessions led by qualified instructors on topics such as understanding sustainability, inclusivity, decolonizing travel experiences, animals in tourism, biodiversity, climate change, voluntourism, and photography with intention. All graduates will receive a co-branded certificate in sustainable travel education with a unique anti-oppression lens.
