Women’s Travel Directory partners make solo travel more affordable with low or no single supplement pricing

by JourneyWoman Staff

Planning solo travel can be exhilarating—but it can also be frustrating, especially when solo travellers are hit with additional fees that make going it alone feel unaffordable. In our recent study “Invisible No More”, 78 per cent of women over 50 said the single supplement is the biggest barrier to solo travel.  A single supplement (also called a solo supplement) is an extra fee added onto the quoted price for a tour, cruise, or hotel room, all of which base their pricing on having two people in that room. This means that women over 50 must share a room to reduce costs, something many are not interested in.

But there is good news on the horizon. While we may be aware of larger companies like Overseas Adventure Travel (O.A.T) offering no single supplement, there are other companies that have been leading the way in women’s solo travel.  These companies, curated from our Women’s Travel Directory, offer no or low single supplement to make travel more affordable for solo women. Find even more companies that offer No Single Supplement on our Women’s Travel Directory here.

Longtime JourneyWoman partner Girls’ Guide to the World designs small-group trips for women who want to travel deeply, not just widely. All Girls’ Guide trips are organized and priced based on single occupancy, and they never charge a single supplement.

4. Women Travel Abroad, based in the US

Women Travel Abroad focuses on creating thoughtfully curated small-group tours designed for solo women travellers, with no single supplement and private rooms always included. All Women Travel Abroad pricing is based on single occupancy.

With just 6–10 women per trip, the experience feels more like travelling with new friends than joining a tour. Each journey blends meaningful cultural connections, boutique stays, and the ease of having every detail handled. It’s travel that’s personal, supportive, and designed to let women explore the world on their terms, without ever feeling alone.

“Many women are eager to travel but don’t have a buddy to go with,” says CEO Katherine Butler-Dines. “Our clients are widowed, divorced, their partner is deployed, or their friends/families just don’t want to go to the same destinations as them. They’re tired of waiting around for others and are ready to go see the world.”

6. Solo Kiwi Adventures, based in New Zealand

Established in 2018, Solo Kiwi Ventures is a small boutique travel company designed for the older solo female traveller, focused on empowering women over 40 to create new connections with increased confidence and discover more of themselves through travel and authentic experiences. Upcoming trips include a 14-day Bali & Gili Islands retreat and a 7-night rejuvenatiom retreat in Ubud, Bali, both in September 2025. “I know that after spending years taking care of others and being responsible for everything, it can be hard to take a break for yourself,” says Sharon McLean, CEO. “That’s why I created Solo Kiwi Ventures – small group tours & retreats for women over 40, to help you find inner peace, balance, and confidence through travel while also discovering more of who you really are.”

8. Together in Tuscany

Together in Tuscany was inspired by Janine O’Rourke after a “magical” vacation with family in friends in the namesake village. Janine’s all-inclusive women’s retreats are a treat for every guest. Small groups of no more than six women come together for a week, staying in restored villas, enjoying private drivers and personal chefs in the idyllic countryside of Tuscany and Umbria.

“Women want to have fun together. They want to let their hair down, be their authentic selves and savour each moment without having to worry about anyone else,” says O’Rourke. In keeping with their “pampering philosophy,” room prices are based on single occupancy. “Most women want their own room, especially women over 50,” Janine explains, however, there is a discount if a guest chooses to share.
