Merino wool: “True story: I bought two pairs of ​Merino wool long underwear​ for my trip to Antarctica. We crossed packed just in case….and those became my “running pants” on board the ship for 10 days, as my big suitcase did not catch up to me until we got back. The pants were grey/purple and did not look like undies!! I had one pair of jeans, three tops, and the waterproof pants to allow me onto the zodiacs!! BONUS TIP: Avoid credit card transaction fees by using a ​prepaid credit card like Wise​. With Wise, you can load a prepaid card in the local currency and use it like a debit card. This works really well on public transit in London, where you can use the ​Wise app​ on your phone to tap on and off. Always keep a small amount of cash on hand. When using a credit card in a foreign country, pay in the local currency, don’t convert to your home currency.
