Please step back in time to a Sunday morning in 1992.
The concept of a woman-centered newsletter was slowly developing in my mind.
I was making lists of the myriad items necessary to bring this exciting idea to fruition.
First and foremost I needed a publication name that would immediately identify as female-centered travel.
In a long-distance Canada to England phone call I laid out the problem to my daughter, Leslie, who was living in London. Our brainstorming session began with me suggesting appropriate words like …lady, woman, travel, female, trip, journey
Then we both went on to try combinations of the words …ladytravel, femaletrip, womantravel
And then Leslie said … ‘JourneyWoman.’
At that moment we both knew without a doubt that we had found the perfect name.
However, what we couldn’t possibly have imagined then was that…
Today, 26 years into the future this Anniversary Issue would be heading to a fantastic network that has grown to 60,000 Journey-Women worldwide.
I am grateful, indeed.
Evelyn Hannon
Evelyn started Journeywoman in 1994, and unknowingly became the world's first female travel blogger. She inspired a sisterhood of women, a grassroots movement, to inspire women to travel safely and well, and to connect women travellers around the world. She passed away in 2019, but her legacy lives on.
