Chelsea Hotel

Downtown

Carolyn says “A very clean, practical, and beautifully located place to stay is the Chelsea Hotel in midtown Toronto. One of the things I love about the Chelsea is that they host their own beehive on the roof. The Chelsea just went through a $25 million dollar refurbishment to upgrade their rooms, restaurants (including Market Square, which I enjoyed recently), and enhancements to its full-service restaurant, Elm Street Bar & Lounge.”

Lobby at the Fairmont Royal York

Fairmont Royal York Hotel

Financial District

Marilyn says “If you can afford it I suggest the Fairmont Royal York, which is a heritage hotel that has played a role in the making of Toronto. The Library Bar and the new Clock Bar in the lobby are both great for people-watching. The hotel is walking distance to most of the downtown core and it’s right across the street from the Union Station subway and the UP Express train to and from the airport.”

Cost: $450+ per night

Massey College Summer Rentals

Queens Park

Catherine says “I can only say good things about staying at Massey College on the University of Toronto campus. It’s normally a dorm for handpicked graduate students, but they accept guests during the summer. They have single and double rooms, simply furnished but comfortable, and cafeteria-style breakfast is included. It’s quiet, inexpensive (50-80$CAN), centrally located, and it feels more like a home than a hotel (don’t be surprised if permanent residents sit down with you at breakfast). Perks include a common room with at least half a dozen daily newspapers and a beautiful park in the quad.”
